On behalf of the Edmonton West Primary Care Network’s (EWPCN) Board of Directors, welcome to the 2023 Report to the Community.
As we look back on 2023 / 2024, the EWPCN has undergone significant changes in the development of our Business Plan which focuses on enhancing patient care. A key priority has been addressing the growing challenge of patient attachment, as many individuals remain without access to a primary care professional.
The Board, leadership, and staff have worked diligently to improve EWPCN programs and services, ensuring alignment with our core priorities: advancing health equity within the EWPCN catchment area, expanding access to mental health services and supports, enhancing physician support, and strengthening the capacity of the Patient’s Medical Home model.
We have expanded team-based care within the Patient’s Medical Home, established the EWPCN Medical Clinic, which has successfully attached just under 1,000 patients since opening, enhanced support for physicians and clinics, provided additional Quality Improvement supports and developed an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion strategy.
Looking ahead, while uncertainty remains regarding Modernizing Alberta’s Primary Care System (MAPS), the Board and leadership are actively engaging with the zone and Alberta Health to develop a model that prioritizes the needs of both patients and physicians. We are committed to ensuring the physician voice is heard in these discussions and planning.
“The Behavioural Health Consultants are amazing. They are professional, good listeners and provide good resources for self-study – most of all they are caring and very understanding of what you are experiencing right now and have skills to provide the appropriate guidance,” Taylor F.
“My health physically (and mentally) has improved so much because of my increased functional fitness. Thanks for the great tips, strategies, correct form & modifications as needed. I’m addicted to getting in scheduled physical activity into my day through virtual workouts and in the fresh air in nature,” Lawrence J
